About
Canned sardines are oily, nutrient-rich fish packed into tins, offering a dense source of protein and fat.
Canned sardines have an average bulk density of about 7.5 ounces per cup (0.9 g/mL), which makes them slightly lighter than plain water. The fish are pressed closely together in oil, water, or sauce, leaving very little empty space in a container. This dense arrangement gives them a heavier weight per cup than flaked meats or loose shredded fish. Most single-serving supermarket tins hold roughly half a cup, or about 3.75 to 4.4 ounces (106 to 125 grams) of fish and liquid.
