About
Table salt is a granulated mineral seasoning that packs roughly 10.9 ounces (308 g) into a single measuring cup.
With a bulk density of about 0.75 ounces per cubic inch (1.3 g/mL), table salt is roughly 30 percent denser than liquid water. Because its fine, cubic crystals settle closely together with very little trapped air, it takes up far less room than flaky salts or flour of the same weight. A standard 26-ounce (737 g) round canister from the grocery store fills only about 2.4 cups (567 mL) of volume. This compact structure makes a container of salt feel surprisingly heavy compared to almost any other dry baking ingredient.
From Wikipedia
Salt is a mineral composed primarily of sodium chloride (NaCl). When used in food, especially in granulated form, it is more formally called table salt.
