About
Kosher salt is a coarse cooking salt that takes up more space by weight than standard table salt.
Kosher salt consists of large, coarse flakes of sodium chloride that leave air pockets when measured. With a typical bulk density of 9.3 ounces per cup (1.12 g/mL), it takes up more space than denser table salt. A recipe therefore requires a larger volume of kosher salt to reach the same level of saltiness as fine salt. It is commonly used during cooking rather than at the dining table.
From Wikipedia
Kosher salt or kitchen salt is coarse edible salt usually without common additives such as iodine, typically used in cooking and not at the table. It consists mainly of sodium chloride and may include anticaking agents.
