About
Hummus is a dense Middle Eastern chickpea dip that packs about 9.2 ounces into a single cup (260 grams).
With a density of roughly 69 pounds per cubic foot (1.1 grams per milliliter), hummus sinks in water and packs tightly into a container. Because it is made from blended chickpeas and sesame paste, it leaves very little trapped air compared to whipped dips. A standard 1-cup tub holds significantly more weight than the same volume of sour cream or mayonnaise.
From Wikipedia
Hummus is a Levantine dip, spread, or savory dish made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. The standard garnish includes olive oil, a few whole chickpeas, parsley, and paprika.
