About
A sod pallet holds living turfgrass and soil, packing immense weight into a compact stack.
A single pallet usually carries between 400 and 500 square feet (37 to 46 sq m) of harvested grass rolls or slabs. The total weight shifts significantly depending on soil thickness and moisture, sometimes reaching 3,000 pounds (1,360 kg) when thoroughly wet. Because moist topsoil is so dense, a pallet of sod weighs far more than a similar-sized stack of wood or mulch.
From Wikipedia
Sod is the upper layer of turf that is harvested for transplanting. Turf consists of a variable thickness of a soil medium that supports a community of turfgrasses.
