About
Raw shucked oysters are dense seafood mollusks that weigh slightly more than fresh water by volume.
Raw shucked oysters have a bulk density of about 8.5 ounces per cup (1.02 g/mL), making them slightly denser than freshwater. Because of their high water and protein content, they occupy almost the same physical volume as shucked clams or scallops. Their soft and pliable bodies allow them to settle closely together in a measuring cup with minimal air space.
From Wikipedia
Oyster is the common name for a number of different families of salt-water bivalve molluscs that live in marine or brackish habitats. In some species, the valves are highly calcified, and many are somewhat irregular in shape.
