About
Nutritional yeast is an airy, flaky seasoning made from deactivated yeast that packs very little weight into a cup.
With a bulk density of about 2.7 ounces per US cup (0.32 g/mL), nutritional yeast is light because air fills the gaps between its flakes. It is far less dense than pantry staples like flour or table salt, which pack much more mass into the same volume. Its airy structure is closer to rolled oats or dry cereal flakes. Because of this low density, a standard 1-pound (454 g) bag takes up about 6 US cups (1.4 L) of space.
