About
Cut from a tropical surface fish, a mahi-mahi fillet is a dense, firm seafood that is slightly heavier than water.
A mahi-mahi fillet has a density of about 1.05 grams per milliliter, meaning it takes up slightly less space than water of the same mass. Because the meat is composed mainly of water and protein with almost no trapped air, it packs tightly in a container. A standard 6-ounce (170 g) cooked or raw portion occupies roughly two-thirds of a US cup (162 mL). This compact density is comparable to other firm, lean fish fillets such as cod or halibut.
