About
Ground cumin is an earthy, crushed seed spice that takes up more than twice the space of water by weight.
Ground cumin has a typical bulk density of about 3.8 pounds per gallon (0.45 g/mL), leaving plenty of air space between the ground particles. A full 1-pound (454 g) batch takes up roughly 4.3 US cups (1.0 L) of storage space. It is significantly lighter by volume than table salt or granulated sugar, sitting closer to the density of all-purpose flour.
From Wikipedia
Cumin is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae, native to the Irano-Turanian Region. Its seeds – each one contained within a fruit, which is dried – are used in the cuisines of many cultures in both whole and ground form.
