About
Ground black pepper is a common kitchen spice that packs about 4.3 ounces (123 grams) into a standard measuring cup.
Ground black pepper is made by milling dried peppercorns into fine, irregular flakes that trap air between them. Because of those air gaps, it has a bulk density of about 0.30 ounces per cubic inch (0.52 grams per milliliter), so a full cup weighs only 4.3 ounces (123 grams). It is roughly half as heavy as table salt and noticeably lighter than granulated sugar in the same volume. Its density is very close to all-purpose flour, meaning equal volumes of the two weigh nearly the same.
From Wikipedia
Black pepper is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. The fruit is a drupe (stonefruit) which is about 5 mm in diameter, dark red, and contains a stone which encloses a single pepper seed.
