About
Ground from common flax seeds, this airy meal weighs about 4.2 ounces (118 g) per cup.
Flaxseed meal has a bulk density of about 31 pounds per cubic foot (0.5 g/mL). It is made by grinding the seeds of the common flax plant, Linum usitatissimum, into a coarse powder that traps air. A standard cup of the meal takes up the same volume as a cup of water but weighs only about half as much. This makes it much lighter than granulated sugar and very close in bulk density to baking flour.
