About
A chocolate chip is a small sweetened baking morsel measuring less than half an inch across.
Standard baking chips measure about 0.39 inches (10 mm) wide, but commercial sizes range from mini morsels to jumbo chunks. Because of their small size, an average 12-ounce (340 g) bag holds roughly 750 individual chips. Their compact teardrop volume with a flat base helps them distribute evenly and retain their structure in baked goods. Mini chips are often less than half this size, while chocolate baking chunks can weigh several times more.
From Wikipedia
Chocolate chips or chocolate morsels are small chunks of sweetened chocolate, used as an ingredient in a number of desserts, in trail mix, and less commonly in some breakfast foods such as pancakes. They are often manufactured as teardrop-shaped volumes with flat circular bases; another variety of chocolate chips has the shape of rectangular or square blocks.
