About
All-purpose flour is a finely milled wheat powder that weighs about 4.4 ounces (125 g) per US cup.
All-purpose flour has a typical bulk density of 0.31 ounces per cubic inch (0.53 g/mL). Because air easily gets trapped between its fine particles, it is much lighter by volume than granulated sugar or table salt. A standard 5-pound (2.27 kg) bag takes up about 18 US cups (4.3 L) of volume. Settling or packing can change its density, which is why sifted flour takes up more room than packed flour.
