About
Oat flour is a light, finely ground grain flour that takes up more space per ounce than standard wheat flour.
With a bulk density of about 3.6 ounces per US cup (0.43 g/mL), oat flour is relatively airy. A standard 1-pound (454 g) bag occupies roughly 4.5 US cups (1.1 L) of volume. Because milled oats produce soft, fibrous particles, they trap air easily and pack less densely than heavier starches like white rice flour or cornstarch.
From Wikipedia
The oat, sometimes called the common oat, is a species of cereal grass (Avena) grown for fodder and for its seed, which is known by the same name. Oats appear to have been domesticated as a secondary crop, as their seeds resembled those of other cereals closely enough for them to be included by early cultivators.
