About
Dried beans are protein-rich legume seeds that weigh about 6.7 ounces (189 g) per US cup.
With a bulk density of around 50 pounds per cubic foot (0.8 g/mL), dried beans are moderately dense pantry staples. Because the hard seeds leave open air pockets when poured into a container, they take up more room than fine ingredients like sugar. A standard one-pound (454 g) bag fills about 2.4 US cups (568 mL) of volume. Their settled weight is very similar to uncooked white rice and slightly lighter than dry lentils.
From Wikipedia
A bean is the seed of plants in many genera of the legume family (Fabaceae) used as a vegetable for human consumption or animal feed. The seeds are sold fresh or preserved through drying (a pulse).
