About
Green beans are harvested immature pods that fill containers loosely, leaving significant air space between them.
Green beans have a bulk density of about 4.4 ounces per US cup (0.53 g/mL), meaning they weigh roughly half as much as an equal volume of water. Their shape creates large air pockets when they sit loosely in a container. As a result, they take up noticeably more room by weight than denser produce like shelled peas or diced carrots.
From Wikipedia
Green beans are young, unripe fruits of various cultivars of the common bean. Green beans are known by several common names, including French beans, string beans, and snap beans or simply "snaps".
