About
Shredded lettuce is an airy leafy vegetable that fills a large volume while weighing very little.
With a bulk density of about 12.5 pounds per cubic foot (0.2 grams per milliliter), shredded lettuce consists mostly of air pockets trapped between loose leaf strips. A 1-quart container holds less than 7 ounces (190 grams), making it far less dense than tightly packed greens or diced vegetables. Because of this loose structure, a 1-pound (454-gram) batch takes up nearly ten full cups of kitchen space.
From Wikipedia
Lettuce is an annual plant of the family Asteraceae mostly grown as a leaf vegetable. The leaves are most often used raw in green salads, although lettuce is also seen in other kinds of food, such as sandwiches, wraps and soups; it can also be grilled.
