About
Coarse sea salt consists of large evaporated ocean crystals that weigh about 9.6 ounces per cup.
Coarse sea salt has a bulk density of about 72 pounds per cubic foot (1.15 grams per milliliter), making it slightly heavier than water by volume. Because its large crystals leave empty air pockets in a container, a cup of coarse sea salt weighs less than an equal volume of fine table salt. It remains noticeably heavier by volume than light, flaky styles of kosher salt. Storing a standard one-pound (454-gram) batch requires about 1.7 US cups (395 milliliters) of container space.
From Wikipedia
