About
Ground cayenne pepper is a light, spicy spice powder that weighs less than half as much as water by volume.
Ground cayenne pepper has a typical bulk density of about 29 pounds per cubic foot (0.46 grams per milliliter). Made by grinding dried chili pods of the Capsicum annuum species, the loose powder holds small pockets of air between its flakes. Because of this structure, it takes up significant space and weighs less than half as much as an equal volume of table salt.
