About
The Washington quarter is the standard United States 25-cent coin, measuring just under an inch across.
Among standard circulating United States coins, the quarter is larger and heavier than the dime and nickel, but smaller than the half-dollar. Modern clad quarters made from copper and nickel maintain a strict standard weight of 0.20 ounces (5.67 g), making them slightly lighter than the silver versions minted before 1965. Stacking fifteen quarters flat against each other reaches just over one inch (25.4 mm) in total height. Because the coin has kept these exact dimensions for decades, it is often used as a familiar scale reference for small hardware and seeds.
