About
Ricotta is a soft Italian cheese that packs slightly denser than water in a measuring cup.
Ricotta cheese has a typical bulk density of about 8.7 ounces per cup (1.04 grams per milliliter), making it slightly heavier than liquid water. It packs more mass into the same space than whipped dairy spreads, but it is very similar in heft to sour cream or Greek yogurt. A standard 15-ounce (425-gram) tub from the grocery store takes up approximately 1.7 US cups (409 milliliters) of volume.
From Wikipedia
Ricotta is an Italian whey cheese made from sheep, cow, goat, or Italian water buffalo milk whey left over from the production of other cheeses. However, modern ricotta is often made from milk instead of whey.
