A kind of cheese · also called Monterey Jack, Jack cheese
About
Monterey Jack is a semi-hard California cow's milk cheese that weighs about 9.2 ounces (260 g) per cup.
Monterey Jack has a density of about 68.7 pounds per cubic foot (1.1 g/mL), which means a solid block will sink in water. A solid one-cup portion takes up standard measuring volume while weighing roughly 9.2 ounces (260 g). This semi-hard cow's milk cheese packs more mass into a given volume than softer cheeses with high air or water content. Shredding or cubing the cheese introduces empty pockets, which lowers the weight that fits in a single cup.
