About
The ostrich egg is the largest egg laid by any living bird on Earth.
Even though it is the largest egg produced by any modern bird, it is the smallest of all bird eggs relative to the size of the adult bird. The shell is remarkably strong and can hold more than a quart of liquid, which historically made it useful as a natural canteen. In terms of weight, a single egg makes up only about one to two percent of the mother bird's total mass.
