About
Cashews are kidney-shaped edible tree seeds that pack loosely, weighing about 4.3 ounces (123 grams) per US cup.
Whole cashews have a bulk density of about 0.30 ounces per cubic inch (0.52 grams per milliliter), meaning they are roughly half as dense as water. Their curved shape prevents them from packing together tightly, leaving sizable air gaps inside any scoop or measuring cup. Because of these open pockets, cashews take up noticeably more space per pound than flatter or smaller nuts like sliced almonds or peanuts. A typical 1-pound (454-gram) bag of cashews fills roughly 3.7 US cups (875 milliliters).
From Wikipedia
Cashew is the common name of a tropical evergreen tree Anacardium occidentale, in the family Anacardiaceae. It is the source of the cashew nut and the cashew apple.
