About
Whole almonds are edible tree seeds that pack loosely, weighing about 5.0 ounces (142 g) per cup.
Whole almonds have a bulk density of about 37 pounds per cubic foot (0.6 g/mL). Because their teardrop shapes do not fit tightly together, air occupies a large portion of any filled container. They take up more space for their weight than granulated sugar or table salt, but are denser than rolled oats. A standard one-pound (454 g) bag fills roughly 3.2 US cups (760 mL).
From Wikipedia
The almond is a species of tree from the genus Prunus. Along with the peach, it is classified in the subgenus Amygdalus, distinguished from the other subgenera by corrugations on the woody shell (endocarp) surrounding the seed.

Quick answer
One US cup of whole almonds weighs about 5.0 ounces (142 g). That makes a cup noticeably lighter than the same volume of granulated sugar because of the air gaps between the nuts.
