About
A vinyl record is a flat analog music disc that spans nearly a foot across while staying paper-thin.
While the standard twelve-inch album is the most recognizable format, smaller seven-inch singles and ten-inch records are also common. Standard pressings weigh around 0.31 pounds (0.14 kg), though heavier audiophile editions can weigh 0.40 pounds (0.18 kg) to resist warping. Despite the wide surface of the disc, the continuous spiral groove holding the sound is microscopic and spans hundreds of yards if stretched into a straight line.
From Wikipedia
A phonograph record or a vinyl record is a disc-shaped analog sound storage medium with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove. The groove usually starts near the outside edge and ends near the center of the disc.
