About
A side-by-side is a compact off-road utility vehicle built roughly the length of a subcompact car.
Side-by-sides are noticeably larger and heavier than single-rider all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) due to their enclosed roll cages, automotive-style controls, and adjacent seating. Dimensions vary widely across the market, ranging from light two-seat utility models to stretched four- or six-seat crew cabs that can exceed 13 feet (4 m) in length. Even though they have a small footprint compared to a full-size pickup truck, their tall ground clearance and roll structure give them a roof height comparable to many midsize SUVs.
