About
A standard rubber band is a lightweight elastic loop measuring under three inches long.
Rubber bands are manufactured in many different dimensions, ranging from tiny loops used in orthodontics to thick bands designed to secure file folders. This common household size can stretch to several times its resting length without breaking. While stretching alters its length and width, the overall volume of the rubber remains nearly the same.
From Wikipedia
A rubber band is a loop of rubber, usually ring or oval shaped, and commonly used to hold multiple objects together. The rubber band was patented in England on March 17, 1845, by Stephen Perry.
