About
The king bolete is a prized wild edible mushroom that develops broad caps several inches across.
This species is considerably larger than common grocery store button mushrooms. While average specimens reach several inches in diameter, exceptional caps can occasionally spread over 12 inches (30 cm) wide in damp forests. Mushrooms lack male and female distinctions, so size variations depend entirely on local rainfall, temperature, and tree host connections. Its thick, club-shaped stem provides the bulk needed to anchor and support its dense, fleshy cap.
