About
The giant panda is a stout bear from China that reaches about five feet long and over two hundred pounds.
Giant pandas are medium-sized members of the bear family, smaller than brown bears but significantly larger than sun bears. Males are typically 10 to 20 percent larger than females. At birth, panda cubs weigh only about 3.5 to 5 ounces (100 to 140 g), which is remarkably small compared to their heavy parents. Adults maintain their bulky frame by spending most of their waking hours chewing tough bamboo.
