About
The domestic horse is a large hoofed mammal that stands over five feet tall and weighs over half a ton.
As a domesticated subspecies of wild horse, its body size varies dramatically depending on the breed. Large draft breeds can exceed 2,000 pounds (900 kg), while miniature horses weigh less than 200 pounds (90 kg). Their prehistoric ancestors were surprisingly small, measuring only about the size of a modern dog.
