About
Furniture includes everyday household items like chairs and tables, which occupy large spaces that consist mostly of empty air.
While raw materials like wood, plastic, and metal are dense, assembled furniture is shaped to support and enclose open space. Because of leg room, cabinet interiors, and seat clearances, finished pieces take up significant room relative to their actual weight. At roughly 6.2 pounds per cubic foot (0.1 g/mL), bulk furniture is far lighter per unit of space than solid lumber or packed boxes of paper. This low bulk density explains why moving trucks usually run out of physical space long before reaching their weight limits.
From Wikipedia

Quick answer
Household furniture has an average bulk density of about 6.2 pounds per cubic foot (0.1 g/mL), meaning one US cup of its overall volume weighs roughly 0.85 ounces (24 g). This makes an assembled piece about ten times lighter than water for the space it occupies.
