About
The colossal squid is the heaviest known invertebrate on Earth, reaching lengths greater than a city bus.
While the giant squid can be longer due to its slender feeding tentacles, the colossal squid has a wider body and holds the record for squid mass. Females grow notably larger than males, accounting for the heaviest specimens ever recovered from Antarctic waters. The species also features the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, which can measure around 11 to 12 inches (27 to 30 cm) across.
