About
Chia seeds are tiny, edible flowering plant seeds that weigh about 5.2 ounces (147 grams) per cup.
Chia seeds have a bulk density of about 38.7 pounds per cubic foot (0.62 grams per milliliter), which equals about 5.2 ounces (147 grams) per US cup. Each individual oval seed measures only 0.04 to 0.08 inches (1 to 2 millimeters) across. In dry form, they pack less densely than granulated sugar or dry rice, but they weigh more by volume than rolled oats. When soaked in water, the seeds can absorb up to 12 times their weight, noticeably expanding in total volume.
From Wikipedia

Chia seeds are oval and gray with black and white spots, and have a diameter of around 1–2 millimetres (0.04–0.08 in).
