About
The white-tailed deer is a medium-sized herbivore common across the Americas, standing roughly chest-high to an adult human.
White-tailed deer are far smaller than relatives like elk or moose, but they are larger than most tropical deer species. Males are typically larger and heavier than females, carrying antlers that add extra height during parts of the year. Their size also shifts dramatically depending on geography, as northern populations grow much heavier than those living near the equator. Despite their slender frame, their muscular legs can clear obstacles up to 8 feet (2.4 m) high.
