About
The whale shark is the largest living fish on Earth, reaching lengths comparable to a standard transit bus.
It is the largest known living fish, far outsizing related carpet sharks and fellow filter feeders like the basking shark. Female whale sharks generally grow larger than males, and exceptional individuals have been recorded at over 60 feet (18.8 m) in length. Despite their enormous physical bulk, they sustain their weight by straining tiny plankton and small fish from the water.
