About
The swordfish is a large oceanic predator whose flat, pointed bill makes up a substantial portion of its total length.
While common adults reach around 9.8 feet (3 m), exceptional individuals can measure up to 14.9 feet (4.55 m) and weigh over 1,400 pounds (635 kg). Female swordfish grow significantly larger than males, which rarely weigh more than 300 pounds (136 kg). Unlike other billfish like marlins that have rounded spear-like snouts, a swordfish has a broad, flattened bill that accounts for roughly one-third of its entire length.
