About
The Rocky Mountain elk is a large deer subspecies that stands over four feet tall at the shoulder.
Elk are among the largest members of the deer family, surpassed in size only by the moose. Male elk, known as bulls, typically grow much larger than females and can weigh significantly more. In mature bulls, large antler racks can add up to 4 feet (1.2 m) to their overall height.
