A kind of concrete block · also called Segmental retaining wall block, Garden wall block, Retaining block

About
A standard retaining wall block is a dense, 55-pound concrete unit shaped to anchor sloped soil in place.
Concrete landscape blocks vary from small 20-pound (9 kg) border stones to massive industrial units topping 75 pounds (34 kg). Unlike hollow cinder blocks, retaining wall blocks are solid or semi-solid to resist the constant sideways push of wet earth. Their substantial weight provides the friction needed to stack them securely without wet mortar. Even a modest backyard terrace can easily require several thousand pounds of these blocks.
From Wikipedia
Retaining walls are relatively rigid walls used for supporting soil laterally so that it can be retained at different levels on the two sides. Retaining walls are structures designed to restrain soil to a slope that it would not naturally keep to.

Quick answer
