About
The narwhal is an Arctic whale known for its stout body and long, spiral tusk.
Narwhals are medium-sized toothed whales that share a similar stocky shape and size with their close relatives, beluga whales. Adult males are generally larger than females and develop a prominent spiral tusk that can grow between 4.9 and 9.8 feet (1.5 to 3 m) long. This famous tusk is actually an elongated canine tooth that extends straight through the upper lip. Even with their substantial weight, their compact bodies and lack of a dorsal fin help them navigate through tight spaces in sea ice.
