About
The great horned owl is a stocky American predator standing roughly knee-high to an average adult person.
Like most raptors, females are notably larger and heavier than males. Thick plumage creates a bulky silhouette that makes the bird look much heavier than its actual frame. It is one of the largest owls in North America, weighed down only slightly compared to the snowy owl.

Quick answer
A great horned owl stands about 18 inches (0.45 m) tall, measures 14 inches (0.35 m) long, and weighs roughly 2.6 pounds (1.2 kg). That gives it the height of a standard bowling pin, but with far less weight.
