About
The domestic chicken is a widespread farm bird standing about knee-high to an adult human.
Chickens are domesticated descendants of the wild red junglefowl, which is generally leaner and lighter. Roosters tend to be taller and heavier than hens of the same breed. While average birds weigh around 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg), sizes range widely from miniature bantam breeds under 2 pounds (0.9 kg) to heavy meat breeds topping 10 pounds (4.5 kg).
