About
A cup is a compact handheld vessel designed to hold several ounces of liquid for everyday drinking.
Most drinking cups hold between 6 and 16 fluid ounces (177 and 473 ml) of liquid. They are much smaller than pitchers or jugs, which serve to pour drinks rather than be sipped from directly. Depending on whether it is made from thin plastic, heavy ceramic, or glass, a cup's empty weight can vary widely even while keeping the same basic size. Handleless styles like tumblers or small tea bowls usually share these same compact dimensions.
