About
The Borneo elephant is the smallest Asian elephant subspecies, standing notably shorter than its mainland relatives.
Often called the Borneo pygmy elephant, this subspecies is roughly a foot or two shorter than other Asian elephants. Adult males typically grow larger than females, and both sexes have distinctively oversized ears and long tails. Even though it is the smallest elephant in the world, it remains the largest land animal living on the island of Borneo.
