About
The Asian elephant is the largest land mammal in Asia, weighing as much as three midsize cars.
The Asian elephant is the second largest living land animal, surpassed only by the African bush elephant. Adult males average about 8,800 pounds (4,000 kg), while females are considerably smaller at roughly 6,000 pounds (2,700 kg). It is generally shorter and more compact than its African relatives, with smaller ears and a twin-domed head. Its massive skull supports heavy teeth and a muscular trunk that alone can weigh hundreds of pounds.
