About
The bonobo is the smallest great ape species, standing slightly shorter than an average eight-year-old child.
Although historically known as the pygmy chimpanzee, the bonobo is not significantly shorter than a standard chimpanzee, but it has a much leaner build. Adult males are slightly heavier than females, but both sexes share narrow shoulders and relatively long legs. This slender frame gives the bonobo an upright posture that makes it appear surprisingly tall when walking on two feet.
From Wikipedia
The bonobo, also historically called the pygmy chimpanzee, is the smallest species of great ape and one of the two making up the genus Pan. While bonobos are today recognized as a distinct species, they were initially thought to be a subspecies of Pan troglodytes, because of the physical similarities between the two species.
