A kind of person · also called Cosmonaut, Taikonaut, Spaceman
About
An astronaut in a full spacesuit stands over 6 feet tall, bulked up by protective life-support gear.
Without gear, an astronaut is an ordinary human, but an extravehicular spacesuit adds massive bulk, width, and weight with its rigid outer shell, helmet, and life-support backpack. Astronauts themselves usually range between 5 feet 2 inches and 6 feet 3 inches to fit inside spacecraft seats and airlocks. In microgravity, their bodies also temporarily expand, stretching their spines by up to 2 inches (5 cm).
From Wikipedia
An astronaut is a person trained, equipped, and deployed by a human spaceflight program to serve as a commander or crew member of a spacecraft. Although generally reserved for professional space travelers, the term is sometimes applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists, politicians, journalists, and space tourists.
