A kind of squirrel · also called pine squirrel, North American red squirrel, chickaree
About
The American red squirrel is a compact tree squirrel that weighs only about half a pound.
This species is considerably smaller than the familiar eastern gray squirrel, typically weighing less than half as much. Male and female red squirrels are roughly the same size, with most adults staying between 7 and 9 ounces (200 to 250 g). Despite its small stature, this squirrel aggressively defends its territory and gathers cone piles that easily dwarf its own body.
