About
The western lowland gorilla is the smallest gorilla subspecies, but it is still a massive and heavy-bodied ape.
Although it is the smallest of the four gorilla subspecies, it still has broad shoulders and great muscular strength. Adult males, often called silverbacks, are much larger than females and can weigh twice as much. When standing on two legs, they look compact, but their outstretched arms can span significantly wider than their total height.
