About
The spotted hyena is the largest hyena species, built with powerful shoulders and weighing as much as an adult human.
It is the largest member of the hyena family, easily outweighing striped and brown hyenas. Unlike most large predators, female spotted hyenas are noticeably heavier and more muscular than males. Their distinctive sloping back comes from forequarters that are taller and far more robust than their hind legs.
